"Butter Container + Bottle Caps"
Luke (Colorado) & Jessica (California) /// Protecting the Pacific International Students /// Bahía Ballena, Costa Rica
1. What was one item you found on the beach that surprised you?
LUKE: I found a container that used to have synthetic butter in it. I think this object came from a home. I think the family used it for a while and then threw it away when they finished using it.
JESSICA: One thing I found on the beach today over and over again that really surprised me was bottle caps. I was so shocked that something so small could easily be forgotten. I believe these bottle caps came from people. It is easy to forget about something so small and the effect it has on the environment and people.
2. What was one thing you learned from the film?
LUKE: I learned that trash from all over the world shows up on beach all over the world.
JESSICA: I learned a lot from the film. For example, the Pacific Garbage Patch is so big that it countries could go bankrupt trying to fix it. That's a really big issue because countries are not going to want to help. So then what do we do?
3. Are you optimistic about the future?
LUKE: I am not optimistic about the future. I think that the problem is too extreme and can only get worse.
JESSICA: I am optimistic about the future. However, I am scared what the future will be. I am excited about accomplishing my dream but not excited about what nature is going to look like then.
