Art and cultural are at the heart of this new era of peace-building in Colombia.

About the Local Partner:

The Artist in Residensea will work directly with Fundación Sinumar, a local nonprofit initiative started by a local fishing family that uses surfing, creative writing, and photography as tools for positive transformation among the community youth.

About the Program:

The main topics of interest for an audiovisual workshops series are about plastic pollution, overfishing, mangrove destruction, peace-building initiatives, and marine animal conservation. There is also a desire for English classes among many of the community youth.

The Artist in Residensea will stay in a cabaña along the beach with access to a kitchen. Typical food include coconut rice, fried plantain pancakes, savory fish, salads, and fresh fruit. Climate is humid and hot but with a powerful breeze along the ocean shore. Volunteers have access to a surfboard and can receive lessons from the local groms. Extracurricular activities include a visit to Isle Fuerte for snorkeling the coral reefs, night bonfires, and tours of the mangrove system.
